The Hubbell Society Museum and Library was formed to include all the descendants of Richard Hubball, our immigrant ancestor and the progenitor of the Hubbell / Hubble / Hubbel / Hubel / Huble families in North America. He came to the New Haven Colony from Rock, Worcestershire, England in the early 1640’s and his descendants spread across New England to the rest of the continent.
While the Society originated with the research of Donald Sidney Hubbell and Harold Berresford Hubbell, Jr, it has grown and expanded to include contemporary projects and activities while continuing to emphasize research and publication. The Family Genealogist, Hilbert Hubble, works continually to document the current generations as well as the past. His works include a military history of the family, with a second edition under way as well as a book on Hubbell sea captains in progress. And of course he continues to add to the database of Hubbells as people share information with him in person or through the web site.
To encourage descendants to learn about and meet their Hubbell/Hubble cousins, the Society sponsors biennial family reunions, the Hubbell Center family archives in Des Moines, IA, the Hubbell Family Scholarship Fund, and HSML Hall of Fame as it works to collect and preserve family history. View the family calendar for upcoming activities and local events. Or take a virtual tour of some of the Hubbell Center displays. New members are always welcome, and you need not be a Hubbell to apply. Libraries, historical and genealogical societies, or anyone interested in this family are encouraged to join.
